I believe wholeheartedly that banking is simple at its core — “it’s a people business.” That philosophy has guided my entire career and shapes the culture of First Bank today.
I have been part of Virginia banking since 1977, starting right out of college as a teller and learning the business from the ground up. Through hard work, relationship-building, and a deep commitment to community banking, I became President and Chief Executive Officer of a community bank at just 30 years old. Nearly five decades later, I remain just as passionate about serving customers, supporting employees, and strengthening communities as I did when I began.
At First Bank, we live our brand promise, there’s power in one. To me, that means one relationship at a time. One conversation. One opportunity to make a difference for a family, a business, or a community.
I have served as President and Chief Executive Officer of First National Corporation since May 2011 and as Chief Executive Officer of First Bank since June 2015. I previously served as President and CEO of the Bank from May 2011 through May 2015.
Outside of our organization, I have served on the board of the Virginia Bankers Association, including a term as Chairman, and continue to serve on the board of the Virginia Bankers Association Education Foundation, where I also previously served as Chairman. I am a board member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and CBB Financial Corp. and its subsidiary, Community Bankers Bank.
Community involvement has always been a hallmark of my career. Over the years, I have been actively involved with United Way, local chambers of commerce, rural health initiatives, law enforcement support, and education programs — reflecting my belief that strong communities and strong banks go hand in hand.
I earned my B.A. from Rollins College and have participated in numerous banking schools and leadership programs throughout my career.
Leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about relationships. And after nearly 50 years in community banking, I still believe the most important investment any bank can make is in its people.
