Ms. Fitzgerald joins First Bank most recently from Dupont Credit Union and brings twelve years of experience within the mortgage industry, as well as an additional 6 years of banking.   Angel is currently working towards her bachelor’s      degree in economics from Liberty University. “We are thrilled to have Angel join our Mortgage Services Team! The purpose of the program is to expose students to the banking industry and provide an opportunity for the students to learn about banking, careers in banking, financial services, and the vital role First Bank and banks across Virginia play in their communities. Participating students also have an opportunity to compete for scholarships funded by the Foundation. Beginning on March 15th, First Bank hosted 22 students virtually, representing seven high schools across our markets including Central, James Wood, John Handley, Riverheads, Sherando, Stonewall Jackson and Strasburg. Scott Harvard, CEO of First Bank and Chairman of the VBA Education Foundation, observed the importance of engaging students in financial literacy and the impact banks have on our economy and communities. “First Bank is pleased to host local students annually on Bank Day.” Harvard stated, adding “Every year we have the opportunity to introduce bright young students to core financial principles while also introducing them to the broad range of employment opportunities in the banking business, as well as the benefits banks bring to their communities.” Over the years First Bank has hosted scholarship winners, and 2021 was no exception. This year First Bank was proud to host the Valley Regional Winner, Abigail Davis of Strasburg High School and the Valley Honorable Mention Winner, Julia Hunter of Sherando High School.  The statewide runner-up and overall winner will be announced by Monday, May 10th. Based on what they learned, participating students wrote an essay for the chance to win a scholarship.  In all, twelve students statewide will receive scholarships totaling $29,000 from the Virginia Bankers Association Education Foundation. Six regional scholarships of $2,500 each were awarded by the VBA Education Foundation, and from those six winners a statewide runner-up and an overall statewide winner will be chosen. The statewide runner-up will be awarded $5,500 in total scholarships and the overall statewide winner will be awarded $7,500 in total scholarships.
